Organized by GiULiA (the Italian Association of Women Journalists), founders of ENWE, together with Ordine dei Giornalisti della Toscana and Fondazione dell’Ordine dei Giornalisti della Toscana, this event will offer valuable insights and practical training for journalists, focusing on ethical practices and strategies to promote gender equality in media representation.

Despite some progress, women continue to be marginalized in the media and in decision-making roles, especially in scientific and political contexts. Their contributions are often minimized or distorted by harmful stereotypes and linguistic biases that violate ethical journalism standards.

In 2016, GiULiA, in collaboration with the Pavia Observatory and supported by the Bracco Foundation, created 100esperte, a database of highly qualified women across various fields. This database is part of the ENWE network, which connects similar resources across Europe to promote female expertise. In 2023, ENWE further strengthened its commitment to gender balance in media with the launch of the Ask Women” newsletter.

The gender gap in media is not just an Italian issue—it spans across Europe. The Media Pluralism Monitor, developed by the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom at the European University Institute, highlights the underrepresentation of women in media leadership and public discourse across Europe. It also offers a comparative perspective and shares best practices from countries leading in gender equality within media spaces.
